The subculture that I got into was basketball. I got into this subculture by chance and by choice. A memory that stands out for me and is also a first is when I first started playing basketball. I would go and practice with my brother’s team when I was in kindergarten. I wasn’t old enough to have my own team yet. I was allowed to practice with them because my dad was the coach. I would go and practice with them doing all the drills they did. I essentially was a part of the team except I didn’t play in games with them. Something fun about being an insider is that you know what’s happening in the game, whether it’s at the level you are playing at or not. I wouldn’t say there are any drawbacks to being an insider. Something I would like to teach others about this subculture is that you don’t have to play competitively to be a part of it. You could just enjoy playing in your free time or with your friends.

  1. There weren’t many specific details that helped me understand the subculture above my basic knowledge. I learned that you have been playing basketball in some form or another since you were in kindergarten. I don’t have much a stereotype for your subculture; from what I know about you, you fit into my stereotype for the most part. Basketball could probably fit into a more broad “sports” culture.
